South India on terror radar
Bangalore: South India, by all indications, is the next terrorist destination. Intelligence agencies have sounded the warning that terror cells established by some terrorist outfits in South India are waiting for the right time to strike.
Starting from the serial bomb blasts in Coimbatore in 1998, there were several terrorist strikes in major South Indian centres, including the twin bomb blasts in Hyderabad, bomb attack on Mecca Masjid in Hyderabad and the attack on the IISc campus in Bangalore.
Besides political and religious reasons, there is evidently an economic angle to the attacks on IT hubs in South India. Hyderabad, Bangalore and Chennai, in the calculation of the terrorists and their sponsors in Pakistan, are attractive targets for economic terrorism. Being an important source of India’s foreign exchange earnings, such attacks are designed to keep foreign IT companies away from India and weaken India’s stock market, which attracts considerable overseas funds.
The recent unearthing of terror training camps in the forests bordering North Karnataka following the arrests of three terror suspects–Mohammed Ghouse, Asadullah Abubaker and Mohammed Asif–is nothing but the tip of the proverbial iceberg.
Two Pakistani national arrested in Mysore on Ocotber 2, 2007, had revealed their plans to attack the Karnataka Secretariat, Vidhana Soudha, and its annexe, Vikas Soudha, in Bangalore and the Central Institute of Indian Languages in Mysore.
The attack on IISc campus in Bangalore on December 28, 2005, in which M C Puri of IIT Delhi was killed and four fellow scientists were injured, was not apparently a targeted attempt to kill any particular scientist. South India, in general, and Bangalore, in particular, have a large concentration of not only IT experts, but also famous scientists.
The sleeper cells of pro-al-Qaeda jihadi terrorist organisations of Pakistan and Bangladesh operating in South India have come to the notice of the police. The most active among them in South India is the Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) followed by the Harkat-ul-Jehad-al-Islami (HuJI).
Occasionally, there have also been reports of the presence and activities of other Pakistan-based organisations such as the Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) and Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM).
The sleeper cells of LeT in South India operate either as LeT or under other names such as the Muslim Defence Force in Tamil Nadu. They aim at “liberating” local Muslims from Indian control as a first step in their plan to “liberate” the Muslims of North and South India and incorporate their “homelands” in the so-called Islamic Caliphate advocated by Osama bin Laden.
After the neutralisation of a LeT sleeper cell in Delhi in March last, the Delhi Police had repeatedly been sounding wake-up calls about the plans of the jihadi terrorists to target IT companies in Bangalore. Media reports have also been speaking of a number of hoax threats addressed to IT companies in Bangalore since March.
The recent hoax message of an attempt by the al-Qaeda to blow up Parliament had also reportedly originated from Tirunelveli, a hotbed of the activities of the al-Ummah, which had organised a number of serial blasts at Coimbatore in February 1998. All these were not hoax calls from pranksters trying to create a sensation. These were probably hoax messages of suspected jihadi terrorists, apparently trying to test the reflexes of the security authorities and create in their mind a hoax fatigue.
Intelligence sources feel that Kerala, which is turning into a potential hotbed of radical Islam, may provide a congenial ground for these terrorist organisations to establish hideouts and cells to operate in South India.
What startles the intelligence sleuths is that highly educated youths are joining the terrorist ranks in a big way. K A Adhoni who was arrested by by Dharwad police for his suspected links with the banned SIMI, is an assistant executive engineer of a government department.
But the sad fact is that the police and intelligence agencies are neither trained nor equipped to deal with the rising terrorist activities. Even after a lapse of two years, the police are totally clueless about the perpetrators of the attack on IISc.
The Karnataka police plan to strengthen its anti-terrorist cell. Since the ground level intelligence gathering holds the key to fighting terrorism, a helpline would be set up so that the public could tip off the police about any suspicious activity. The number of police informants would also be increased.
According to P K H Tharakan, Adviser to Karnataka Governor, a disaster management authority will be set up soon that will also develop strategies to tackle terrorism.
Knee-jerk reactions apart, no state has yet evolved a proper mechanism to deal with terror. Lack of political will and weak policing help terror outfits to expand their base.

Should terrorism be resolved politically or through guns?

I have to say, I was pretty impressed with myself overall, no matter what grade I get on the exam, because I did try my best.
The multiple choice part was mediocre for me, even though it’s my weakest. I had a lot of “gut” feelings when I answered the questions, and felt pretty confident about them.
I did guess on the last 5 questions because I was running out of time, though. I just went “C, C, C, C, C” straight down…
But anyways, I feel really good about the essay portion. For the Space exploration one, I used 5 sources, and linked them with one another while addressing the importance of those sources in my essay. Did anyone use the one with the photograph? I had no clue on how to use that source.
I felt the 2nd essay was the easiest. I love analyzing essays and figuring out what kind of strategies the author used to appeal to the audience. The essay was pretty straight forward, and the anti-environmentalist and the environmentalist’s point of view from the author was very convincing, no matter which side he took on.
The third essay about adversity was alright to me. I basically said that adversity strengthens one self to be a stronger person.
I wrote 7 pages in total. I can’t wait to see what I made on this AP test! I also took AP US History, which was a complete crap shot. I Christmas tree’d the multiple choice, and didn’t write any essays, but only a story about unicorns.
How do you guys think you did?

The Central Intelligence and police department are keeping a close vigil in Aligarh to find clues in connection with the recent blasts in Uttar Pradesh and earlier blast in New Delhi. Intelligence agencies are worried about a new terrorist organisation – Indian Mujahdin – jointly formed by Student Islamic movement of India (SIMI) and Bangladeshi terrorist outfit, Huji.
Aligarh being the birthplace of SIMI, intelligence agencies are keeping a special eye on Aligarh. The intelligence department is also making efforts to find out if Indian Mujahidin is operating from Aligarh. It may be recalled that Indian Mujahidin have taken the responsibility for launching the recent bomb blasts in Lucknow, Faizabad and Varanasi.
These agencies raided several places in Aligarh to trace one of the main accused, Salar alias Hamid alias Afaq, in connection with the Delhi blast. Officials were of the view that Salar may be an important chain in the recent bomb blast in Uttar Pradesh as he is an expert in bomb blast technology. If Salar is arrested and interrogated, clues for the recent blasts can be ascertained, said an official. According to the intelligence sources, Salar, who is the Commander of Lashkar-e-Toyyiba, was involved in the bomb blasts and has network in Aligarh and Bulandshahar.
Sources also said Aligarh and Bulandshahar are a safe haven for terrorists. Although no incident has occurred here, these places are used for planning strategies by sleeping partners of fidyaeens. A senior intelligence police officer said these areas are preferred as hideouts for terrorists because of their proximity to Delhi.
Terrorist activities are carried out by two separates wings. First is fidayeen who perform the actual act of terrorism, and the second group consist of sleeping partners who plan out the acts and also provide the material including arms and ammunitions. Both fidayeen and their sleeping partners treat the Western districts as safe haven, as the local police do not have the experience to deal with terrorist activities.
This fact about the Indian Mujahideen came to fore first time in 1992 when intelligence officials arrested one Javed Yusuf in Dodhpur area of Aligarh with AK 47 rifle while another person Sharief, a Pakistani had escape at that time. Both were the active commanders of the Pakistani intelligence agency ISI.
On September 28, 2001, the Special Task Force and Agra Police arrested one Mobin from Shamshad Market near Habib Hall with RDX. Police had disclosed then that Mobin was involved in the Agra bomb blast, Kanpur bomb blast and Sabarmati train bomb blast. On December 22, 2002, the STF arrested Mohd. Taris alias Javel Sariq and Abuzar Hussain from the AMU campus with a photograph of the Bareilly cantonment. The police there also recovered a passport and diary from Taris, which contained the phone number of Pakistani intelligence officers. After interrogation, Taris had admitted that he had obtained training for terrorist activities in Pakistan.
Intelligence sources said Salar alias Hamid is involved in the October blast in Delhi and Salar is said to have his network in Aligarh. Police sources added the STF raided Salar’s hideout in 2000, but Salar managed to escape. In 2006, Adanan Karmani of Aligarh who was killed in encounter in Mumbai have link with Lashkare-Tayyiba.

Obama was seen cart-wheeling down the street !! LOL .
Just a joke , but I’m wondering if you guys heard that behind the scenes , Hillary is really irked by Obama like no one else . And now I’m wondering if she’ll choose him as a running-mate or not ? That is , if she wins the nomination . The so-called inside sources say Hillary is also miffed by Obama’s popularity and she feels he has stolen her limelight . She wanted the whole focus to be on her and the fact that she’s a woman candidate for President .
Assuming all this is true , and it is very plausible , . . … . … .How do you think this will affect Obama’s and Hillary’s campaign strategies ?
Obama is clearly taking big chances with his stance on despots and terrorists . And Hillary seems to be openly chastising him like a trainee . Yet Obama is raising more money and more importantly , more money from more people!!

South Africa?

one region of the world and identify at least two serious environmental problems, such as soil degradation, air or water pollution, pesticide misuse, overpopulation, wildlife extinction or threatened biodiversity, and deforestation, that impact this region. What seem to be the root causes of these problems?
• Determine what strategies local governments, businesses, or individual citizens can implement to lessen the negative impact on the environment in this region and help prepare it for a more sustainable future. Keep in mind that you may have very limited resources available to you in this region. Are there practical solutions to these problems that can be funded, developed, and implemented locally, or will long-term solutions require assistance from outside sources? If outside support is required for your plan, detail the extent of their involvement.
• Identify other regions of the world that have attempted to overcome these same, or similar, problems. Describe at least one method that they attempted to use to solve the problem. Did they succeed or fail in their efforts? What environmental or social factors aided or hindered the implementation of those plans?

Help Me With My Report!?

What are the battle strategies that commanders used in petersburg? Plz explain the weapons they used also.
Put ur sources down too Thank you !

Working on yet another research paper, but am having quite a bite of difficulty locating appropriate academic or scholarly pieces to incorporate into my work. We must have 10 sources, but 8 must be from an online database or scholarly journal. This have never been a problem before, but I must not be researching this topic quite right.
My research topic is “How ave the learning strategies of today’s k-12 students been affected by pervasive technology?”. My five subtopics to be addressed are: research skills (ironicly!), comp programs, texting/slang and language development, penmanship/writing skills, and internet vs reading.
I don’t need anyone to write it or tell me how, I just need someone to show me how to be a better online researcher!

Proper Test Correcting???

I work in a Language school who insists that when marking students exams, we actually write the correct answer for them on the test.
I believe that this is pedagogically wrong, that there tests should be graded but no”corrected” but cannot find any literature on the internet to back it up.
If I can go to MGMT with sources, maybe I can convince them that what we are doing does not help the student learn.
here is an article here Strategies for Correcting Students’ Wrong Responses

Does Potassium Neutralize Lactic Acid???

I get a LOT of tension in my back. Its kind of like one big knot actually and sometimes it burns when its especially bad. I’ve been told the burning is caused due to the muscle being tight for so long, causing too much lactic acid to be released. I was also told that potassium neutralizes the acid- actually it was more like “eat, a banana, it will help.. potassium balances the acid”. Is there any truth to that?? I’m a research junkie- but I’m hard pressed to find any evidence that this information I received from a trusted source is accurate. If its not, are there any diet strategies anyone knows of to help balance out my body because of the chemical imbalances my tension causes???
Please no suggestions on relaxation- I GET that I’m stressed and telling me to calm down really kind of aggravates me ;) . Thanks.
